Year 4 Young Achiever Program

Core Program

The Young Achiever Program is by invitation only based on results attained in the Young Achiever Entrance Exam.

This advanced course is reserved for the highest achieving Year 4 students and contains additional teaching/learning materials to those offered in the Year 4 Fastrain Extended Program. Subjects include Writing, English, Mathematics and Thinking Skills/General Ability. Through this course, students will experience the development of literacy and numeracy skills necessary to maximise the chance of success in major external exams as well as ensuring a competitive edge in their school environment. Each lesson contains 30 minutes dedicated to writing skills followed by 90 minutes each of literacy and numeracy. Students develop essential literacy and numeracy skills for greater confidence and success at school. Thousands of students have studied in our programs.   • Provide extension teaching/learning experiences for gifted and talented students
  • Provide a full range of academic experiences to improve chances of success in the Opportunity Class (OC) Exam
  • Develop advanced literal and inferential comprehensions skills
  • Develop problem solving skills
  • Develop competency and creativity in writing across a range of text types
  • Develop superior spelling skills
  • Develop an advanced vocabulary
  • Develop grammar, usage and punctuation skills
  • Develop advanced knowledge of numbers in thousands and beyond
  • Develop numerical operations
  • Develop understandings of fractions and decimals
  • Develop a range of thinking skills (general ability) concepts
  • Develop concepts of area, time and measurement using formal and informal units
  • Develop concepts of graphing, money, chance and probability
  • Develop concepts of shape, position and temperature
  • Develop exam techniques
Course Structure
  • 4 terms in a year, 10 weeks in a term
  • 3.5 hour lessons per week, during term
  • Students attend lessons at their allocated time schedule
  • Small class group based. Entry by invitation only based on results attained in the Young Achiever Entrance Exam
