Opportunity Class Exam Prep (NSW)

What is the Opportunity Class (OC) Placement Test?

The Test consists of two examinations completed in one testing session at a designated location. Each examination consists of 35 multiple-choice questions. Students have 30 minutes to answer each examination. The examinations cover skills in English, general ability and mathematics.  It is held only in NSW and only on the designated test date each year. The Opportunity Class (OC) Placement Test for 2022 entry will be held on Wednesday 21 July 2021.

If the test date or location is changed due to NSW Health requirements the NSW Department of Education will notify parents of new arrangements individually.

To apply, parents must go online through the NSW Department of Education website.

What are Opportunity Classes?

Opportunity classes are located in NSW government primary schools. Their purpose is to cater for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students who possess high potential. These classes facilitate learning by grouping students with others of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level.

The High Performing Students Team  of the NSW Department of Education administers the opportunity class placement process.
