Effective Grammar, Sentence Structure & Creative Writing

A comprehensive course of grammar, sentence structure and writing to ensure your child is well equipped for the demands of the English curriculum for the start of the school year.

Course Goals

Among the outcomes:

  • Develop advanced understandings of nouns – common, proper, collective and abstract
  • Develop advanced understandings of adjectives, adverbs, pronouns and verbs
  • Develop punctuation and advanced grammar
  • Develop knowledge of prepositions, articles, superlatives and comparisons
  • Develop writing skills in the text types of book review, descriptions, directions, narrative and poetry
Advanced English & Writing Expression; Plus Advanced Maths and General Ability (Mock Tests)

Provide your child with an appropriate academic challenge through our Advanced English and Writing Expression; Plus Advanced Maths and General Ability (Mock Tests) course. This is the perfect course to continue the development of critical skills in preparation for the demands of Year 6. Ensure your child develops the skills and knowledge vital to making a successful start to the new academic school year.

  • Develop multiple choice exam techniques
  • Develop creative writing skills – narrative text type
  • Develop literal and inferential comprehension skills – close and short answer formats
  • Develop an advanced lexicon
  • Develop the skills of interpreting maps and weather reports
  • Extend knowledge of exam hints and tips
  • Extend knowledge of interpreting cube structures and advanced visual discrimination
  • Develop logic, problem solving and puzzle solving skills
  • Develop mathematical reasoning skills
Creative Writing & Written Expression

A skilled and creative writer will excel in NAPLAN, ICAS, Selective and Scholarship exams. Since writing skills take time to develop it is vital that Year 6 students get an early start in preparing for the important exams in Year 7 and beyond. A highly recommended course.

  • Develop plot techniques
