Year 6 High Achiever Program

Core Program

The High Achiever Program is by invitation only based on results attained in the High Achiever Entrance Exam.

This course is reserved for the highest achieving Year 6 students and contains additional teaching/learning materials to those offered in the Year 6 Fastrain Extended Program. The High Achiever Program is the premier course to prepare gifted and talented students for Selective Schools and ACER Scholarship exams. Through this course students will experience the development of literacy and numeracy skills necessary to maximise success in major external exams as well as ensuring a competitive edge in their school environment. Each lesson contains half hour dedicated to writing skills followed by three and a half hours of literacy and numeracy. The North Shore Coaching College has an outstanding record of Selective Schools Test success with the highest scoring student of all time being a North Shore student. We are also understandably proud of our unrivalled success in students attaining scholarships to the country’s most prestigious private schools.

  • Provide a full range of academic experiences essential for success in the Opportunity Class (OC) Exam
  • Develop advanced literal and inferential comprehensions skills
  • Develop problem solving skills
  • Develop competency and creativity in writing across a range of text types
  • Develop superior spelling skills
  • Develop an advanced vocabulary
  • Develop grammar, usage and punctuation skills
  • Develop advanced knowledge of numbers in thousands and beyond
  • Develop numerical operations
  • Develop understandings of fractions and decimals
  • Develop a range of thinking skills (general ability) concepts
  • Develop concepts of area, time and measurement using formal and informal units
  • Develop concepts of graphing, money, chance and probability
  • Develop concepts of shape, position and temperature
  • Develop exam techniques
Course Structure
  • 4 terms in a year, 10 weeks in a term
  • 4 hour lessons per week, during term
  • Students attend lessons at their allocated time schedule
  • Small class group based. Entry by invitation only based on results attained in the High Achiever Entrance Exam
